Abstract: The literatures related to regional energy consumption in CNKI and Science Direct database were adopted as the data source. Based on the method of co-word analysis and jointly using the multi-dimensional scaling analysis and strategic coordinate analysis, the research framework of the internal structure of every field and the interaction among various areas between domestic and abroad are compared. Results showed that the study of regional energy consumption in China could be divided into five categories including factors analysis, energy security and energy strategy, energy consumption, energy policy and study on the effect and taking energy efficiency as the research core, in which the most mature research category focused on the factors to influence energy consumption. Meanwhile, the abroad study of regional energy consumption could be divided into five categories including energy system, energy policy and sustainable development, energy consumption, china and climate change, with a clear research core composed by energy saving, electricity, environment and technical progress, and china and energy as the most mature research category. Comparing the research between domestic and abroad comprehensively, it can be seen that three of five domestic academic research categories on regional energy consumption are mainly on noumenal dimension, just as forward and backward effect, and the description of inside physical property and so on, meanwhile, system dimension and social dimension have been paid little attention to. In the future, the categories of climate change and energy system should be strengthened, and more attention must be paid to the studies of China's regional energy consumption in the view of system.
