Abstract:
There are obvious regional differences in innovation level among Chinese enterprises. In order to explore whether regional culture as an informal system will affect enterprise technological innovation, based on the GLOBE culture model, this paper studied the impact of regional culture on enterprise technological innovation from three dimensions, and conducted an empirical test with the data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2007 to 2017. The research results show that: (1) The uncertainty avoidance of regional culture had a significant negative impact on enterprise technological innovation while the impact of future orientation and collectivism orientation of regional culture on enterprise technological innovation was significantly positive. (2) In private enterprises, the stronger future orientation of regional culture was, the stronger promotion effect of executive compensation incentive on technological innovation would be. However, in state-owned enterprises, the moderating effect did not exist. (3) The stronger uncertainty avoidance of regional culture was, the weaker promotion effect of government subsidies on technological innovation would be. This moderating effect is still significant in private enterprises, but not in state-owned enterprises. When making innovation strategies, enterprises and countries should take regional culture differences into consideration and adopt innovation measures more suitable for local conditions.
