Abstract:
Owing to the influence of Structuralism and Functionism, grammar teaching in China went through the "Two extreme treatment", either excessive emphasis or excessive ignorance. It still seems in question wherher the importance of determining a proper position and function of grammar should be laid for a better teaching effect. This paper, from the perspective of theory and practice, discusses the three pairs of relationships in grammar teaching: grammar teaching and subjects of the teaching, grammar teaching and teaching aims, grammar teaching and the types of courses, and clarifies the various relevant positions and functions, and then points out that to improve foreign language teaching, various means should be employed to deal with elements related to grammar teaching.
