Abstract: With the"pre-understanding " of the traditional culture,Guo Mo-ruo stepped toward the world during the May-4t h period.Through experiencing and pursuing the traditional culture,Guo Mo-ruo ac quired a new understanding to the spirit of Chinese traditional culture.He const ructed his philosophy in the light of the view of unity of heaven and man.His th oughts,such as pantheism were only one of the expressions of the view of unity,w hich is characterized as modernity.
