Abstract: City Spirit has two philosophical connotations:“being”and“should be”.In this respect,Shanghai as one of the major cities of China,its spirit is faced with two historical predicaments caused by the development of the city and the lost of its original spirit.Shaping the city spirit can guide the city out of the predicament.The practical quality of a city spirit should embody the three points:the establishment of the new development vision,of the new development pattern,and of the new development value.
