Abstract: As an area deity,the worship to Hugong Emperor in Zhejiang province has continued for hundreds of years.Recently,many temples of Hugong have been constructed and the apotheosis of the deity prospers dramatically.This paper discusses the reasons of unfailing worship to Hugong deity and its effect on local society.Sequentially the paper concludes the features of Chinese folk religion and its status in traditional society.
