Abstract:
Pound's creative translation and modernist poetry are more well known to the reader compared with his archaic tendency, which is relatively less understood or recognized. From a historicist perspective, this paper attempts to analyze and evaluate Pound's archaic tendency in his translation and poetry, proposing that he not only applied archaic language significantly in his early poetry translation, but also with consistency and flexibility he applied foreign literary and cultural elements to his entire translation and creation.Through a chronological exposition of the development of Pound's translation and poetry, this paper intends to elucidate how Pound has flexibly merged archaic language and his sense of archaism into his modern poetic creation for an amazing sense of"archaic touch with modern language".On the basis of this interpretation,it points out that Pound's creative inspiration and practice have been deeply immersed in his archaic sense, which has been interwoven with his sense of modernist innovation. Both of the two senses are seemingly conflict, but actually merged. This merge is the essence of Pound's creation.
