Abstract: The People's Wail was established by Mr. Yu Youren with the principles of overthrowing the rule of the Qing Dynasty and propagating the revolutionary optimism, which are concluded from the historical perspectives of politics, revolution, paper and magazine. After the analysis its origin, contents and the discussion of the newspapers'mission, this thesis finds that, from the scope of thought history, The People's Wail also remolded people's national character, by multiple means as editorial, news, novels, drama, powerful and caustic cartoon and so on. Harbored in the realistic events, The People's Wail sensitively and naturally shoulders the responsibility of transmission and teaching. Both its contents and the forms inherit and develop the movement of national character remolding in the beginning of 20 century.
