Abstract: To strengthen and improve the ideological and political education at colleges and universities in the new period, it is of great significance to grasp accurately the basic requirements of the social core -value system. Marxism should be firmly rooted in undergraduates' faith in order to grasp the soul of the core-value system. Students' belief of socialism with Chinese characteristics should also be enhanced to stress the theme of the education. Moreover, their national spirit and time spirit should be cultivated so as to hold the essence of the core-value system. At last, their moral quality should be improved actively to lay the solid foundation of the ideological and political education.
