Abstract: The People's Wail was another large-scale, comprehensive newspaper established by Yu Youren after he established the National Herald. All the public views of The People's Wail were evolved from the field of politics and revolution. Readers have been preoccupied with its content concerning political revolution but lost sight of its emphasis on nation quality and transformation of the nation, mainly on account of its close relations with bourgeois revolutionaries, and its direction of public opinion before the 1911 Revolution. From the perspective of thought history, this article will mainly focus on its thought of "invigorating the national spirit". The People's Wail attacked the abuses of feudal education, promoted the education which was able to cultivate the people 's independence, opposed feudal superstition and bad old habit, promoted science, and so on. All the views still can provide resources for today's national education.
