Abstract: Asiatic Daily News is considered as an important newspaper controlled by Yuan Shikai. By analyzing many raw materials, this paper discusses some novel points which are different from current existing research. The time of the initial issue, which is March, 10 1912, is first determined. Furthermore, the paper studies the changes of this newspaper’s original mission and concludes the traits in journalism practice by means of analyzing the original newspaper’s content. This paper attempts to really understand this newspaper and gives an impersonal review on the press strategy in the reign of Yuan Shikai by researching on the early Beijing Asiatic Daily News.
