Abstract:
From the Macartney Mission to China, western world had begun to pay attention to "DA QING LU LI" or "Laws of Great Qing". George Thomas Staunton translated it into English in 1810. From then on, British and American scholars further had been increasingly doing researches on it, which not only facilitated their understanding of the Chinese legal system, but also helped the process of the Western invasion of China. Consistent with Western interests in China and changes in Western social thoughts, they had studied this law book with different focuses at different times, ensuing different understandings and evaluations.
