Abstract: Hui Shi Hou Su' comes from cloth and silk decoration in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, which was used by Confucius to describe Zhuang Jian's beauty, and extended by Zi Lu into the process of learning Li. The sentence 'Hui Shi Hou Su' should be explained as 'painting is lastly completed by plain color' instead of 'painting on the silk of plain color', in order to get close to its original meaning, the syntactic principles and the weaving and embroidering process in Pre-Qin days.
