Abstract:
The Characteristics of Lao She and Cao Yu's criteria for love and marriage epitomized their views on women and reflected their real associations with women. Due to his sense, Lao She did not sink into depravity on the failure of his inveterate and romantic first love; instead, he looked for a life companion suitable for him in a steady and practical way and built his happy and warm family. Cao Yu's passion made him discard his unsatisfactory marriage, hunt for his true love and ultimate women. Cao Yu's three marriages did not show that he was changeable and fickle in affection but proved that, as a civilized modern person, he considered love and marriage between the two sexes as a rather serious matter. Lao She and Cao Yu played an exemplary role for modern people in dealing with love, marriage and choosing spouse both in theory and practice, so, from this point of view, their contributions to modern China are beyond literature.
