Abstract: University international consortium gradually becomes an effective choice for Chinese well-known universities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness on international exchange, enhance the core competitiveness and increase international influence and visibility. Based on the summary of the concept and characteristics of university international consortium, the consortia organized by Chinese 985 universities are classified. With the four typical problems faced by the Chinese universities in the various consortia, such as orientation and matching, organizational coordination, real cooperation and cooperation upgrade, six suggestions for Chinese universities to set up or joining the university international consortium are proposed, including raising awareness of the university international consortium, playing a leading role in running or joining consortium, focusing on win-win cooperation, choosing partners based on actual conditions, organizing and running consortium objectively and enhancing core competitiveness in the process of competition and cooperation.
