Abstract:
Based on the upper echelons theory and resource-based theory, the paper used the Listed SMEs in China's stock market, and analyzed the interaction effects between the entrepreneur characteristics and the competitive strategy to the growth of SMEs. The result shows that sales growth rate would be increased for the entrepreneurs with either higher education achievements or output function when the differentiation strategy is adopted, while high score would be achieved for the entrepreneurs with production function when low-cost strategy is adopted. The paper puts forward that entrepreneur's own resources and features should be fully considered while choosing the competitive strategy. It would be best to adopt differentiation strategy for the entrepreneurs with both higher education achievements and output function, while adopting low cost strategy for entrepreneurs with both production function and lower education achievements.
